She will appear on tomorrow night's show after wowing judges with her voice as she took on the difficult song

Jeff explains to Piers Morgan about the bandage: 'I had an operation on it last week to sort it out because I was snoring a lot at home.'

His act sees him stripping and using a skipping rope to Nelly the Elephant music.

Best pals Ruth and Chantelle, whose act is called Different Dreams also appear.

The pair, who first met at a bus stop, rehears at Chantelle's house. She tells the judges her mum is deaf so she doesn't get bothered by the noise. They perform their version of Barbara Dickson and Elaine Paige's I Know Him So Well.

Femina Miss India 2010

The winners of the country’s biggest beauty pageant were announced before a select gathering in Mumbai on Friday.

The coveted title of Pantaloons Femina Miss India (PFMI) World 2010 went to Andheri girl Manasvi Mamgai (center). PFMI International 2010 was Neha Hinge from Pune. Bangalore girl Nicole Faria was crowned PFMI Earth 2010.

Moving indoors from the summer heat, the open-air pageant shifted to the airconditioned environs of the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA).

The pageant formalised its tie-up with the Hindi film industry, often the final destination of aspiring beauty queens. Film-makers Madhur Bhandarkar and Vipul Amrutlal Shah shortlisted six finalists, of whom two lucky girls will be crowned Pantaloons Femina Miss India 2010 Bollywood Diva. Each will feature in a film by these directors. However, the wait for these winners will take just a while longer — the announcement will be made on May 16.

Of the 18 finalists, most were from the metro cities — six from Mumbai and five from New Delhi—but the odd participant from Jammu, Dewas and Raipur did leave a mark as well.

True to tradition the successors were crowned by the previous years’ winners. Doing the honours was PFMI World 2009 Pooja Chopra, PFMI Earth 2009 Shriya Kishore and 2002 winner, actor Neha Dhupia. Ekta Choudhary, PFMI Universe 2009, was also present. PFMI 2008 World and Miss World 2008 first runner-up Parvathy Omanakuttan felicitated Dr Sonal Shah of the Richfeel Group for its 10-year association with the Miss India pageant. FEMINA MISS INDIA 2010: Countdown to the Crown - Who will be the winner of Miss India 2010

FEMINA MISS INDIA 2010: Countdown to the Crown
By Albin Beart

Few countries have enjoyed the kind of success that India as enjoyed in pageantry. Out of relative obscurity, Miss India suddenly took the pageant world by storm in the 90s.

By any measure of success – speed (within a few years, they had won both Miss World and Miss Universe), consistency (India won 6 major titles and has had an unbroken 20 year streak of placing in the semis at MW/MU, a record unmatched even by Venezuela) or impact (the advent of the “brainy beauty” forever changed the standard by which beauty queens are judged), Miss India quickly rose to the very pinnacle of the pageant world, with eyes squarely on her anywhere she walked or talked.

The meteoric success of Aishwarya Rai and Sushmita Sen quickly captured the imagination of the public and Femina Miss India transformed itself into a professional organization that spent time and money on grooming its contestants, with just as much emphasis on personality and comportment as on hair and catwalk – the Femina Miss India “boot camp” includes meditation, yoga and lectures on classical art, with an emphasis on churning out national winners who are not only beautiful, but also self aware, confident and articulate.

The formula seemed to work, and within a few short years, India was churning out even more winners – Diana Hayden, Yukta Mookhey, Diya Abraham all appeared in quick succession, followed by a historic sweep in 2000, when Lara Dutta, Priyanka Chopra and Diya Mirza brought home the Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss Asia Pacific crowns.

But as times changed, the Miss India formula stayed static and other countries started to eclipse their success. In many ways, India was going through a crisis of confidence the way Venezuela did in the early half of the decade when India’s success caused it to doubt its own formula.

And as the Indian economy exploded and many other avenues of success for young women interested in glamour opened up, Femina Miss India also struggled to attract the best women from across the country. Last year, armed with a new contestant director, Marc Robinson, who was a leading model in the early 2000s and a director of the Mumbai Fashion Week, Femina decided to reassert itself.

FEMINA MISS INDIA 2010: A New Beginning?

After a freshman year mostly spent observing, Marc and his team return to the 10th anniversary of the historic Lara-Priyanka-Diya win with a renewed focus and vigor, with major changes in the format.

Starting this year, Miss India has decided to focus its energies on the biggest prize in pageantry, the stunning turquoise and sapphire Miss World crown, the only prize that has truly ever mattered to India. For the first time since its founding, Miss India will no longer send a representative to Miss Universe.

Although a new organization, I AM SHE, run by former MU Sushmita Sen will ensure that India is represented at MU, it is a loss that the MUO will be hard pressed to compensate, especially in light of the strength of this year’s Miss India group.

Along with renewed focus, Marc has also worked to entice the best girls in the country to Miss India — a tie-up with some of India’s most famous film directors to offer two contestants a role in their next film productions, has made the contest a huge draw and once again relevant to the industry.

Finally, this year, the contest is expected to see changes in format as well, with more emphasis on presentation in the final show and on community work in the run-up. With Marc’s background in high fashion, we can also expect more shades of couture coloring the show.

After a six month casting tour of the country, and two regional sub contests (Femina Miss India South and Femina Miss India East), Femina Miss India is back stronger than ever before. Marc and his team have kept this year’s contestant pool small at 18 (the Miss India average is 30), and most pundits are already calling it the best group ever.

The CAST:

The 18 finalists this year are already being called the best ever. In pageant circles in India and across the world, there are already hushed whispers about international crowns and many believe that we may have already seen the next Miss World.

Among the contestants are gorgeous Nicole Alvarez, a professional dancer, whose ambition and intelligence mark her out as a true renaissance woman, sassy Gurpreet Bedi, a graphic designer who returned home from London to compete in this year’s contest, the angelic Jinal Pandya, who has captured the imagination of many fans with her throwback looks to classic Indian film actresses and the statuesque Aeshra Patel, a 5’10” stunner who has traveled all the way from a village in Gujarat to the starry lights of Mumbai to realize her dream.

Two girls already have a head start. Gorgeous 19 year old Nicole Faria, 5’9” and with sun kissed skin is the winner of the Femina Miss India South contest, one of two regional preliminaries to Miss India. Among her prizes for winning is a direct entry to the top 10 of Miss India 2010. Nicole is from Bangalore, and a rising star in the modeling world in India, where her striking looks have already won her comparisons to Freida Pinto. Joining her in the top 10 is the winner of the other regional pageant, Miss India East Unnati Davara, who resembles Gabrielle Walcott, Miss Trinidad & Tobago 2008 and 2 RU at Miss World 2008.

That leaves 16 girls battling it out for 8 spots. Nicole and Unnati will have to contend again with their runners-up in their regional contests – the statuesque and eloquent Kritika Babu (5’10” and already the winner of Miss Perfect Ten and Best Catwalk) and the stunning Rohini Mukherjee, whose doe eyes and impossibly beautiful face have already invited comparisons to Diya Mirza.

Gurpreet Bedi has plans of her own, it would seem. With the chic quotient of Ekta Chowdhry and gentle beauty of Puja Gupta, she would be a contender just on her looks alone, but it is her combination of sophistication, sass and eloquence that distinguish her. Her only drawback is her height – at 5’7”, she is one of the shortest contestants this year, but as grils like Celina Jaitley, Tara Conner and Honey Lee have shown, a beautiful face can never be held back.

Height is certainly not a drawback for Neha Hinge, who at 5’11” is one of the tallest contestants in this year’s group. Neha’s earthy beauty, eloquence and spiritual aura bring to mind a young Sushmita Sen, and with a couple of sub-contests under her belt already, she has shown that she is here to win. She will have to battle with the equally tall and beautiful Dimple Patel, who is joined by another Miss India returnee, Alisha Pekha.

Dimple and Alisha competed in 2009 and 2008 respectively, and both were among the top favorites in their years. To the utter shock of many, both failed to advance to the top 10. In retrospect, perhaps they were a bit too “raw.” This year, they are both stronger than ever, Alisha with renewed focus, and Dimple with a much improved body and presence.

If Dimple and Alisha are here to justify faith in second chances, Jinal Pandya and Tahira Kocchar are here to prove that old may well be gold, with their throwback looks. Jinal’s ‘girl next door’ looks, classicially Indian, have captivated fans in India for their resemblance to actress Bhagyashree, who was India’s sweetheart in the late 80s. Tahira brings to mind a more recent sweetheart, Simran Kaur Mundi, so cruelly robbed of a semi-finalist spot at Miss Universe 2008.

But the biggest challenger of all may well be Manasvi Mamgai, who is already one of India’s most well established models (signed with Elite Models). With her experience both on the ramp and a warm up run in a minor international pageant (Manasvi won Miss Tourism International in 2008), she brings to mind Lara Dutta who had a similarly undefeated run of success when she competed in 2000. Manasvi’s classically beautiful face, eloquence and quiet confidence have certainly distinguished her thus far in the competition.

WHO WILL WEAR THE GOLD CROWN?

Miss India is a notoriously difficult contest. The winner must not only have stage presence and beauty, but also great presence of mind and eloquence to win.

And it is not only the girls who have struggled with the contest. On no less than 4 occassions in the last two decades (1994, 1997, 2000 and 2004), the judges have had to resort to a tie-break to decide the winner.

The competition this year seems to suggest that they may yet again have to resort to such additional measures to see who is worthy of the pure gold crown that will grace head of the winner.

It is our wish that at least a few alumnae of this batch will chose to revisit Miss India again, if they leave without the crown. With such a strong and competitive batch, it may well be luck that separates the destinies of the girls, and there are at least a few in this group who will come back as definite contenders for an international crown with a year or two of personal and professional growth behind them.

For now, in our view, there are three girls who have clearly distinguished themselves in this group. Nicole Faria and Manasvi Mamgai are possessed with extraordinary beauty, up there with some of the most successful Miss Indias like Priyanka Chopra.

Nicole Faria has the elegance and projection of a top couture model, and projects a sincerity and sweetness that will resonate well at Miss World, while Manasvi has a more classic movie star face, oodles of glamour and has a vibrance and acute awareness of the moment – so critical in a pageant.

To their company, we add Neha Hinge, whose strong sense of self and intelligence shines through to light up her beauty. These three girls have everything necessary to win not just the Miss India crown but an international crown today.

Close behind are Kritika Babu, Gurpreet Bedi, Rohini Mukhrjee, Nicole Alvarez, Jinal Pandya and Dimple Patel. These girls have all the potential in the world, but only time will tell if they can overcome minor limitations in experience, age, projection and styling. The finals will test how well they have made use of their month long grooming and training sessions.

But the contest is far from closed. In our opinion, almost every single girl in contention has the beauty and charisma to contend for a spot and even win a crown. This is a group that has every right to be immensely proud of itself, and that has announced loud and clear to the world that MISS INDIA is back!

Amanda Holden is pumped up for Britain's Got Talent (and no, we're not talking about her lips)

By Daily Mail Reporter

Full of hot air: Amanda Holden gets made into a balloon fairy on this Saturday's Britain's Got Talent show

Earlier this week the size of Amanda Holden's lips aroused suspicions amongst some observors, but whether or not she's had them cosmetically enhanced remains a mystery.

However, on tomorrow's Britain's Got Talent she'll be hard pressed to deny that there are at least a few things on her that have been pumped up.

In this case though the talent show judge is merely made to wear some colourful balloons that have been expertly moulded and shaped during the auditions in Newcastle.

Suspicious: The actress looks unimpressed as the Balloon Brothers give her a handful of colourful balloons at the beginning of their act

An amusing act, cleverly named the Balloon Brothers, transform the actress into a fairy with the aid of their moulding balloons.

She joins the twosome on stage, where she plays along as their assistant before being given a pair of wings, a wand and a tiara...all made from balloons.

Unaware of what the Durham duo are doing, Amanda initially sports a confused look on her face as they kit her out in the pink balloon ensemble

Unaware: The judge wears a confused look on her face as the Balloon Brothers mould her into a fairy

Fairy good: Amanda beams as she realises she's been dressed up with a tiara, wings and a wand by the talented double act

However, once she realises that they are making her into a cute sugarplum fairy she wears a beaming smile, before returning to join Simon Cowell and Piers Morgan on the judging panel.

The twosome, Keith Stirman and Dominic Cassidy, make their intricate creations while playing music from the Blues Brothers movie.

They arrive on stage in a police car made entirely from balloons before calling Amanda up on to the stage.

Dream come true: Stephen Mulhern gets the jet pack he always wanted when the Balloon Brothers construct one for him

After their act they head backstage to make Stephen Mulhern a jet pack he's always wanted.

Actress Amanda Holden also likens Simon Cowell to the Prime Minister during a chat with Stephen.

She tells him how much she loves working on Britain's Got Talent, explaining that a particular perk is flying round the country on Simon's private jet.

Dog's life: This Saturday's show features yet another act featuring a talented dog - this time the pooch plays his owner's guitar

Stephen asks Amanda what the three judges talk about on the plane, she tells him: 'He (Simon) really does talk very openly about everything, his private deals he's doing, his American shows.

'I just sit there thinking, this is unbelievable...It's kind of like being with the Prime Minister. He's right at the centre of show business, he is the person that everybody wants.'

Stephen also falls foul of Piers Morgan when he wipes gold paint on the judge's £2000 suit.

Watch your lip! Amanda Holden's lips look a little plump around the edges as she's pictured leaving Zuma restaurant in Knightsbridge earlier this week

After lending a helping hand to paint a naked model he bumps into Piers backstage and manages to wipe gold body paint all down the arm of Piers suit and across his face.

A few days later Piers is seen re-telling the story to Amanda, whilst Stephen is there.

He tells her: 'Do you know how intelligent Stephen is? He covers his hands in gold paint, comes up to me and goes "Alright mate" (wiping hands down his arms) ruins my suit, goes "Alright son" (wiping his hands on face). Ruins a £2000 suit and covers my face in gold paint.'

As well as the Balloon Brothers and the naked model, viewers can expect to see another dog with talent this week as a pooch takes to the stage to play his owner's guitar.

Stylish Sarah Jessica Parker puts her best face forward at the ballet

By Daily Mail Reporter

Stylish and classy: Sarah Jessica Parker shows off her trademark fashionable look at the New York City Ballet last night

After the shocking picture of her craggy face emerged, Sarah Jessica Parker's outing last night provided her with an opportunity to put her best face forward.

The 45-year-old actress was seen recently showing off her hollowed cheeks, and gaunt face as she ran errands in New York.

And along with her Madonna-like bulging, veiny arms, speculation centred on whether a new intense workout regime was having a negative impact on her body.

But last night at the New York City Ballet's Annual Spring Galathe she reminded everyone just why she has a reputation for being one of the most stylish women on the planet.

Made up: The actress put her best face forward after revealing an unflattering barefaced look the other day

Wearing an emerald green cropped silk jacket over a nude lace dress, the actress looked her usual glamorous self.

She accessorised the outfit with a pair of rhinestone studded Alexander McQueen heels, and embroidered clutch bag as she walked the red carpet at the glamorous affair.

But there were tell tale heavy bags under her eyes, evidence if any that it's hard work being the mother of three children.

Since the birth via a surrogate of twins Tabitha and Marion last summer, Parker has been working hard filming back to back films Sex And The City 2, and doing heavy promotion on her flop rom-com with Hugh Grant Did You Hear About The Morgans?

On fire: Natalie Portman looked red hot in an asymmetric dress by designers Lanvin

Despite her very low weight, SJP has in the past refuted allegations that she barely eats and has admitted she finds it difficult to gain weight.

She told Fitness magazine recently: 'I'm always trying to put weight on. I eat everything.

'I’m just an eater and I love junk food. If it’s free, I honestly eat everything.'

Also in attendance was actress Natalie Portman who looked red hot in Lanvin at the event which was held at New York's Lincoln Centre.

The 28-year-old Star Wars actress came to the event to support her boyfriend, New York City Ballet principal dancer Benjamin Millepied who created the world-premiere ballet for NYCB.

Emerald queen: SJP looked stunning in an emerald green jacker and sparkly nude dress

By Daily Mail Reporter

Model figure: Welsh underwear model Danielle Lineker has glowing skin and luscious hair at the launch of McQueens in east London last night

With legs as long as hers, Danielle Bux needs little more than a pair of high heels to get party ready.

The model wore an eye-catching pair of metallic ankle boots and denim mini shorts as she joined husband Gary Lineker for the launch party of a new bar last night.

With her naturally slender figure, the 30-year-old was the toast of the party.

The pair were joined by Jade Jagger at the launch of McQueens bar in east London, named after Steve McQueen.

Danielle was showing off a mahogany tan - a result of her recent holiday to Tenerife.

The break ended with a 24 hour journey home, after volcanic ash halted flights.

The frocks that made Posh's fashion critics eat their words

By Karen Kay

Personal style: Victoria Beckham's latest collection includes a red jersey dress with folded neck (left), a lamé chiffon and jersey asymmetric dress (centre), and Posh in one of her own designs at this year's Vanity Fair Oscar party (right)

It was not so long ago that Victoria Beckham was treated like a pariah in fashion circles.

Stylists sneered at the former Spice Girl's outfits and designers refused to loan her clothes, whispering that her endorsement was the kiss of death.

But Mrs Beckham has undergone one of the biggest fashion reincarnations since Burberry was transformed from a dowdy Home Counties staple into an international celebrity favourite.

As her fourth collection was presented in London yesterday, at Mayfair's Savile Club, stylists and editors ate low-fat slivers of humble pie while running the rule over dresses they now covet.

Two rails of frocks, each bearing her signature brass zip down the spine, drew admiration from even the most cynical fashionistas.

While the collection's structured simplicity had much in common with her previous ones, it revealed that Posh's designs have developed.

There was intricate seaming and more diaphanous fabrics such as chiffons and lamés

Fit for a lady: A twisted drape dress with corset bodice (left), a silk jersey with grosgrain embroidery (centre), and a fitted frock with fold detail in emerald felt (right)

Origami-influenced sheath dresses in heavy rib jerseys nestled alongside glossy raffia tweeds tailored into understated dresses that owe more than a nod to a young Grace Kelly or Tippi Hedren.

Such pared-down silhouettes cut with the precision of a master tailor have become her look, and it seems she's on to a winner.

'The clothes rarely reach the shop floor,' said a spokesman. 'Clients see the collection and put their names down in advance, so it's unusual to see the pieces merchandised in retail spaces - they're sold before they can get there.'

And that's despite the high price tags - an 'entry level' dress from the current collection costs £1,000, while prices for the more intricate gowns start at £4,000.

Floating along: The 'Cloud' frock in a blurred pixel print (left), silk crepe column dress in sapphire (centre), and a floor-length belted trench dress in lamé chiffon (right)

Why? These are grown-up clothes for sophisticated women - high-profile fans include Elle Macpherson, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Hudson - and they cater for even the more voluptuous figures within the English sizes six to 14.

Like any designer at the helm of a burgeoning fashion business, Victoria employs a team to help translate her style into a commercial collection, but one of her design assistants said yesterday: 'From the shade of teal that's just so, to the weight of the lamÈ for the bodice of a dress, Victoria is in control every step of the way.'

Certainly, what Posh wants, she gets. While there are no plans for theatrical catwalk shows yet, her empire is slowly expanding, into sunglasses and denim

And with predicted sales of £7.5million in the next three years, it seems she is now a fashion force to be reckoned with.
