PAGING NURSE BLABLA! CAROLINE WEBER CHECKS INTO THE STYLE HOSPITAL.

Everywhere you look — from Richard Prince’s kitschy ‘‘Nurse’’ portraits to Keira Knightley’s wartime angel of mercy in ‘‘Atonement’’ to the white-suited vixens in recent videos for Duran Duran and Good Charlotte — Florence Nightingale and friends are having a moment. Not since Catherine Barkley, the love interest in ‘‘A Farewell to Arms,’’ achieved literary immortality wearing ‘‘what seemed to me to be a nurse’s uniform’’ has the peaked-capped protector generated so much cultural traction.

Marc Jacobs faced a lot of criticism following his late running New York show a few weeks ago. Now he returned to the catwalk with Louis Vuitton presenting his Spring/Summer 2008 collection of ready to wear and accessories. The first part of the show included a lot of 1950's style clear perspex nurse uniforms worn over bright coloured mini dresses. They had white nurses hats with a single red letter on the front, spelling out "Louis Vuitton". The clothing was kept relatively plain to highlight the bright coloured totes which were being carried. The bags came in a range of shapes and sizes although the oversized trend was still important. They were created in a mirage of colours with each tote featuring at least two shades.

Comic Con is in full swing in San Diego, and we have some choice photos from the floor. The annual nerd mecca has moved well beyond just comic books to cover all things animated, nostalgic, and/or playable. It's the best chance to see pen and ink icons brought to life, as well as some of the most elaborate comic-culture costumes around. Check back frequently for more updates.
