The Oscar-winning actress brought home baby Louis Bardo, now three and a half months old, in January prior to the breakdown of her marriage to Jesse James.
She is pictured with the child, who was born in New Orleans, on the cover of the latest issue of America's People magazine.
The 45-year-old and estranged husband James, 41, began the adoption process four years ago, according to the publication.

Of her decision to end her five year marriage, she said: 'I'm sad and I am scared.'
The former couple initially decided to keep the news secret until after the Academy Awards, which saw her named best actress for The Blind Side.
Just days after March 7 ceremony, tattoo model Michelle 'Bombshell' McGee claimed she had an 11-month affair with James.
He apologised, conceding he had shown 'poor judgement'.
More allegations of infidelity followed and James subsequently checked into a treatment facility to address 'personal issues'.
James, who was spotted near his Huntington Beach home without his wedding ring on Monday, has three children - Sunny, 6, Jesse Jr., 12, and Chandler, 15.
He was previously married to a former porn star, Janine Lindemulder.
