'Dancing with the Stars' Finale Recap: Mya on the Lead

Mya pocketed two perfect 30s in Paso Doble and Freestyle, giving her a head-up of Donny Osmond and Kelly Osbourne.

In the "Dancing with the Stars" finale this week, it all came down to three couples and three dances that will determine who wins the disco mirror ball this season. Each of the celebity dancers, Mya, Kelly Osbourne and Donny Osmond, has to dance favorite dance of the season, a freestyle and a megamix.

Kelly and partner Louis Armstrong kicked off the finale with Argentine Tango. Carrie Ann Inaba gave Kelly a tip during the rehearsals, saying that she should loosen up and focus on the intimacy. The dance earned Kelly a praise from Inaba for the emotional connection and a criticism from Bruno Tonioli for her loose hand. Score: 9-9-8, a total of 26 out of 30.

Mya and Dmitry Chaplin did the Paso Doble and they got a visit from Len Goodman. The head judge wanted them to bring intensity and power to the dance. The actual dance was "fearless" as Bruno put it and "hot and dynamic" according to Carrie. Score 10-10-10, a total of 30 out of 30.

Donny and Kym Johnson chose Cha Cha Cha and Bruno became their advisor. Carrie applauded Donny's hip work, saying that he had just made a breakthrough. Len declared, "That was a cha cha cha!" Bruno added that Donny was professional when taking his shouts for hours during rehearsals. Score: 9-9-9, a total of 27 out of 30.

Then there was the Megamix challenge. The three couples did the same choreography side by side and the routine is a combination of Viennese Waltz, Jive and Samba. Len thought it was gonna be easy to judge but he said he was wrong. In respective order, Kelly, Donny and Mya earned 26, 28 and 30.

The freestyle came next with Kelly choosing "I Will Survive" as the theme song because it represented her journey on the show. Kelly fell in the middle of a lift but quickly revived from the accident. Bruno said she looked beautiful with the glamor of disco era. Carrie said Kelly had given the audience what they wanted to see. Len said it was enjoyable but they could not ignore the "worrying incidents". Score: 8-8-8, a total of 24 out of 30.

Mya who wanted to "take a risk" opted "Hairspray"-themed dance with the song "You Can't Stop the Beat". Carrie was disappointed at how it did not show the full potential of Mya although it was fun. Len thought it was monotonous while Bruno expected something more spectacular. Score 9-9-9, a total of 27 out of 30.

The last couple, Donny and Kym, brought Broadway to the dance floor. Len said it was an "absolute show-stopper" while Bruno shouted, "Mr. Showbusiness at his best!" Carrie said Donny belonged to the freestyle hall of fame. Score: 10-10-10, a total of 30 out of 30.

Thus, Mya is in the lead with 87 out of 90. Donny Osmond is in second place with 85 out of 90, followed by Kelly Osbourne with 76 out of 90. It is up to audience vote to determine who will walk away with the trophy on Tuesday, November 24 night. Tom DeLay, this season's contestant who withdrew in the fourth week, will be back on the finale. "I'm so excited to dance," the former Republican House Majority Leader said. "I'm much more comfortable now that I'm not competing."
