Lovely in lace: Taylor Swift uses the sidewalk as her catwalk at New York Fashion Week

By SOPHIE FORBES

Laced up: Taylor Swift dons an intricate vintage lace dress as she heads to the Rodarte Fashion show for New York Fashion Week today

While models strutted their stuff down the catwalks at New York's Lincoln Centre, Taylor Swift took a different approach.

The country singer showed off her modelling wares in a stunning lace creation, as she sashayed down the sidewalk in Downtown New York today on her way to the Rodarte show at Fashion Week.

Ethereal: The vintage dress worked perfectly with Taylor's fair skin and wavy blonde hair
She is one of four country stars with five nominations, including the CMA's top award, entertainer of the year.

The 22-year-old star displayed her lean, supermodel-esque physique in the sheer cream dress which she paired with nude platform wedge heels.

Taylor then headed into the show where she joined Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour and actress Rooney Mara in the front row of the show.

Pregnant singer Beyonce and her sister Solange were seated just a few seats down.
Meanwhile, Taylor will be battling the boys at the upcoming 2011 Country Music Association Awards.

Classic beauty: Taylor pinned her long blonde hair loosely off her face and donned her signature bright red lipstick

She'll compete with Blake Shelton, Keith Urban, Jason Aldean and last year's winner, Brad Paisley, in the entertainer category.

Aldean, Shelton and Paisley were the others with five nominations apiece. Zac Brown Band and The Band Perry were next with four.

Front row fashions: Taylor sat alongside Anna Wintour and Rooney Mara for the packed Rodarte show

The nominations marked a breakthrough for Aldean and Shelton, both first-time entertainer nominees and long overlooked at awards shows until recently.

Like Paisley, Swift and Urban have each won an entertainer trophy before.

Swift is also up for female vocalist of the year with Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, Sara Evans and Miranda Lambert, who won the honor last year on her 27th birthday.

Paisley and Carrie Underwood will host the award show for a fourth time live Nov. 9 from Nashville on ABC.

Ouch! Reese Witherspoon reveals a nasty black eye, bruises and cut forehead a week after being knocked over by car

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Patched up: The star also had a plaster covering a cut on her forehead

She was taken to hospital with minor injuries after being hit by a car last week.

And today, Reese Witherspoon showed the extent of her injuries, sporting a nasty looking black eye and bandage on her forehead as she arrived for a friend's birthday party in Los Angeles.

Dressed in a smart blue dress, a fading bruise running alongside the side of the star's face was clearly visible as she unpacked presents from her car.

Visible injuries: Reese Witherspoon showed her black eye, and bruised face as she unpacked presents at a friends house in Los Angeles earlier today

She also appeared to have a bruise on one of her knees from the fall which happened last Wednesday when an elderly woman knocked her down as she jogged over a pedestrian crossing.

But Reese's injuries didn't appear to be troubling the star too much.
At one point she shared a joke with her friend before going into the party.

Brave face: The Oscar winning star looked happy and relaxed despite her injuries and shared a joke with a friend

It is the first time the 36-year-old star has appeared with her injuries visible in public.

She was spotted wearing sunglasses with husband Jim Toth, just two days after the accident which saw her taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

However, she was quickly discharged and spent some time 'resting at home', according to her representative.

Chic: The actress looked smart in a blue dress and brown ankle boots, with her blonde hair loose around her shoulders

'The whole incident really frightened her,' a source close to the actress told Us. 'Now she's just resting up.

'The odd thing about all of this,' the source added, 'is that Reese has always been very afraid of being hit by a car.

'It's been an ongoing fear of hers. She is always the first person to pull people away from the edge of the curb.'

Shaded: Reese wore sunglasses to hide her injuries as she appeared with husband Jim Toth just two days after the accident

It has emerged that Resee will not be pressing charges against the woman who struck her after failing to yield to the actress on the crossing on the 20th street and Georgina Avenue Area of Santa Monica.

The vehicle was travelling at around 20 miles per hour when it hit Reese and the 84-year-old driver was cited for failure to stop for a pedestrian.

According to TMZ, the elderly woman feels 'awful' about the accident.

'You wouldn't look twice at Kate Middleton on a New York street': Nordstrom fashion director claims Duchess of Cambridge is 'no trendsetter'

By MAYSA RAWI

Plain Kate? The fashion director for US department store Nordstrom claims the Duchess of Cambridge 'blends into the crowd'

She has graced countless magazine covers and anything she wears sells out within days, in a phenomenon dubbed the Kate Effect.

But it seems the Duchess of Cambridge’s style has fallen foul of the sharp-tongued members of New York’s so-called fash-pack.

Gregg Andrews, a fashion director at leading U.S. department store chain Nordstrom, sniffed: ‘She is stylish, but she’s not setting trends, she’s following trends.

Dress debate: Jill Martin, author of 'I Have Nothing to Wear!' thinks this spring, there will be many brides walking down the aisle in dresses with sleeves, paying tribute to Kate

‘If you take Kate out of the Royal Family, put her on a street in New York, you wouldn’t look at her twice. She’s a beautiful woman, but she blends into a crowd.’

Indeed, most figures at the city’s Fashion Week had their claws out for Britain’s blossoming style icon.

One leading journalist insisted that Kate was the very opposite of fashionable and that the public is becoming obsessed about what she wears only because of her royal status.

Elle fashion news director Anne Slowey said: ‘Is she a style icon of the likes of a Kate Moss? Absolutely not. Is she in the public eye? Are people going to become obsessed with everything she wears regardless of what it is? Yes.’

Lauren Conrad recently launched a fashion collection with Nordstrom

The £385 blue Issa knee-length dress she wore when her engagement to Prince William was announced sold out within 24 hours, while chain store Reiss saw its website crash when she wore its £175 taupe Shola bandage-style dress to meet Michelle Obama in May.

There were some good words for Kate. Fashion writer Jill Martin predicted that her wedding dress, by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, would be a style followed by many brides next spring.

'I truly despise you and you’re unattractive inside': Serena Williams’ extraordinary outburst at U.S. Open umpire lands her a $2,000 fine

By Alanah Eriksen

Have a word: Serena Williams launched an angry tirade at the umpire after she was penalised for yelling 'come on' before her opponent had reached the ball

Serena Williams launched an angry verbal attack on an umpire during the U.S. Open final, calling her 'unattractive inside' and a loser - and she's been fined $2,000 over it.

The American had received a code violation for yelling 'come on' after battling to hang on to her serve during the start of her second set against Samantha Stosur yesterday.

The ball had not yet reached the Australian and, under grand slam rules, a deliberate hindrance, such as an intentional shout during a point, sees the perpetrator lose the point.

Williams, who eventually lost 6-2 6-3, found out on Monday that the Sunday night outburst cost her $2,000 - a drop in the bucket consider the $1.4million she earned at the Open.

She earned $900,000 for reaching the final, plus a $500,000 bonus for finishing first in the standings of the U.S. Open Series, which takes into account results at hard-court tuneup tournaments.

The USTA also said Grand Slam committee director Bill Babcock determined "Williams' conduct ... does not rise to the level of a major offense." She was under probation because of an outburst at the 2009 U.S. Open.

Hitting out: Williams argues with Greek umpire Eva Asderaki during her grand slam defeat to Sam Stosur

The incident follows her infamous verbal attack on a lineswoman which cost her a point penalty and her US Open semi-final against Kim Clijsters in 2009.

She was given a hefty fine and was still playing under a two-year suspended ban this year.

Yesterday, Williams was being outplayed by Stosur at Arthur Ashe Stadium and had already lost the first set when she let out a huge cry.

Chair umpire Eva Asderaki then told her the point would go to Stosur because she had committed an intentional hinderance.

Williams asked for a replay but when the Greek umpire refused, the tennis star accused her of being involved in the 2009 incident.

Pointing her finger, Williams yelled: 'Aren't you the one that screwed me over last time here? Yeah you are.

'Seriously, you have it out for me?

'I promise you, that's not cool. That's totally not cool.

'I truly despise you.

And during the break, she continued her tirade.

Sitting in a chair while drinking water, Williams warned her: 'If you ever see me walking down the hall, look the other way because you're out of control.

'You're a hater and you're just unattractive inside.

'Who would do such a thing? And I never complain. Wow. What a loser.

'You get a code violation because I express who I am. We're in America last I checked.

'Can I get a water? Or am I going to get violated for a water?

'Really, don't even look at me. I promise you don't look at me... Don't look my way.'
Ms Asderaki didn't respond as she listened to the rant.

Williams hugged Stosur after the match but then immediately walked off, ignoring Ms Asderaki as the Australian athlete reached up to the umpire's chair to shake her hand.

Ranting: Williams called the umpire 'unattractive inside' and a loser and warned her to 'look the other way' if she sees her in the hall

Williams refused to apologise and was unwilling to discuss the incident in a press conference.

She laughed as she told reporters: 'I don't even remember what I said, I'm sorry.

'It was just so intense out there. It's the final for me. I guess I'll see it on YouTube. I don't know. I was just in the zone. I think everyone when they play kind of zones out.'

But she spoke highly of her opponent, saying: 'She was cracking 'em today. She definitely hit hard and just went for broke.

Pointing her finger, Williams yelled: 'Aren't you the one that screwed me over last time here? Yeah you are'

Williams laughed in a press conference afterwards, saying she didn't remember what she said but would probably 'see it on YouTube'

Still going: Williams continued her rant during the break while sipping water and drying herself off with a towel

'And I think sometimes, a lot of people were putting me as the favorite and I definitely was trying not to put myself as the favorite. I was like 'It's anyone's game' as you can see after the result today.'

The United States Tennis Association decided today to fine her.

A statement from the organisers yesterday said : 'Any impact this code violation might have on Serena Williams' Grand Slam probation would require the incident being ruled a major event. That determination will be made by the Grand Slam Committee Director.'

The match was Stosur's first at Arthur Ashe Stadium where she secured a maiden grand slam title.

The 27-year-old became the first Australian woman to win a grand slam title since Evonne Goolagong in 1980.

Stosur said it was intimidating playing against Williams.

Sealed with a kiss: Stosur celebrates her first her Grand Slam success in New York

Big crowd: Thousands watched Williams' rant during her defeat by Stosur

'She's probably the best player of at least my generation of playing. Not only is she big in stature and all that, she's got a huge game.

'But it kind of becomes more irrelevant and becomes about the task on that day, playing the match.'

She added of her win: 'I'm still kind of speechless. I can't actually believe I won this tournament.

'I've played matches where I feel like I can't miss a ball, and it's fantastic, but to do it under these circumstances in this kind of final against a player like Serena, for sure I'm going to think it's one of the best days of my career.'

Kim Kardashian prepares to put catwalk waifs in the shade as she rolls up to New York Fashion Week in tight frock

By Daily Mail Reporter

Kim Kardashian left waif-like trendsetters trailing in the shadow of her voluptuous curves as she headed to New York Fashion Week today.

She looked stunning in a skin-tight number as she left her Manhattan hotel to attend an event in the epicentre of the couture cavalcade.

Watch out Manhattan: Kim Kardashian looked sensational as she left her New York hotel to attend Fashion Week today

The clinging taupe dress is like a second skin, and would look hideous on most women - not to mention many models.

But Kim's hourglass figure and butterscotch skin ensure that the 30-year-old newlywed carries it off beautifully.

Likewise, the built up Louboutin heels in jet black that Mrs Humphries has had affixed to her feet in New York err on the side of passe.

Elegant: Kim's outfit would look bad on many other women, but works for her

Kim and her sisters have done much to downgrade the status of these coveted Parisian heels over the past few years.

Wearing them constantly with their new Hollywood glamour outfits has eroded Louboutin's high fashion cachet.

But as she totters towards her car, no-one can walk far in these things, to head to the Lincoln centre, the 5ft2 TV personality is a titan of sex appeal.

And then there's the typically over the top necklace featuring gold chains and emerald coloured simulated stones.

It's gaudy, lacking in finesse and strangely alluring - just like Kim.

But the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star, who married Kris Humphries in Santa Barbara last month, unleashes a hitherto unseen elegance by wearing her hair in a modest chignon.

The whole look suggests she is to retain pole position as the peacock of her family, despite new models emerging from every branch.

Her younger sister Kylie Jenner, 14 , is to walk the runway today for Avril Lavigne's Abbey Dawn collection.

And even her new sister-in-law Kaela Humphries is getting in on the action, she is modelling for Richie Rich during the extravaganza.

Kim looked composed given recent speculation about her new marriage.

In Touch reported that she is angry about Kris befriended sister Kourtney's trouble-causing boyfriend.

They write that a recent pair saw tension between the star and 32-year-old Kourtney as Kris, 26 , and Scott, 28 , drank nearby.

'A beautiful young warrior: Spartacus star Andy Whitfield loses his battle with cancer at age 39

Tragically young: Spartacus actor Andy Whitfield has died from cancer at the age of 39. He passed away in Sydney in the arms of his wife, it was announced today

Actor Andy Whitfield, star of the TV series Spartacus: Blood and Sand, has died of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, it was confirmed today.

The actor, who was born in Amlwch, Wales, but moved to Sydney in 1999, lost his 18-month battle with the disease on a 'sunny Sydney morning in the arms of his loving wife (Vashti),' she said in a statement.

The actor, who was 39, was diagnosed with stage 1 of the disease in March 2010, but was declared cancer-free two months later after beginning treatment immediately in New Zealand.

However, the cancer returned in September of that year and he was advised to resume 'aggressive treatment'.

Whitfield's wife Vashti paid an emotional tribute to her husband, saying: 'On a beautiful sunny Sydney spring morning, surrounded by his family, in the arms of his loving wife, our beautiful young warrior Andy Whitfield lost his 18-month battle with lymphoma cancer.

'He passed peacefully surrounded by love. Thank you to all his fans whose love and support have help carry him to this point.
'He will be remembered as the inspiring, courageous and gentle man, father and husband he was.'

Whitfield found fame in the TV remake of Spartacus and appeared in all 13 episodes of the first season. He was preparing to make the second when he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma

Whitfield was a virtual unknown when he was cast as the legendary Thracian slave in Spartacus, a role made famous by Kirk Douglas in the 1960 Stanley Kubrick film.

The series proved a break-out hit for the Starz network and made waves with its graphic violence and sexuality.

Whitfield appeared in all 13 episodes of the first season that aired in 2010, and was preparing to shoot the second when he was diagnosed with cancer.

While waiting for Whitfield's treatment and expected recovery, the network produced a six-part prequel, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, that aired earlier this year with only a brief voice-over from the actor.

Spartacus stars: Liam McIntyre and Lucy Lawless, pictured here in July, both spoke highly of Whitfield

But in January, after Whitfield's condition grew worse, the network announced that another Australian actor, Liam McIntyre, would take over the role.

McIntyre said at the time: 'Andy’s such a wonderful actor. I don’t want to follow that guy, and everybody hurts that he’s had to give up the role, myself included.'

At the same time, Whitfield released his own statement acknowledging the decision: 'It's with a deep sense of disappointment that I must step aside from such an exceptional project as Spartacus and all the wonderful people involved,' he said.

'It seems that it is time for myself and my family to embark on another extraordinary journey.'

Whitfield's previous credits included appearances on the Australian TV shows Packed to the Rafters and McLeod's Daughters.

Spartacus director Steve DeKnight took to Twitter to express his pain. 'No words to express the depth of such a loss. You will be deeply missed, my brother,' he wrote.

The gladiator: Whitfield was a virtual unknown when he was cast as the legendary Thracian slave in Spartacus

The actor's Spartacus co-star, Lucy Lawless, also paid tribute to him on her website, saying he was a 'gentle man who never had a bad world about anyone'.

Lawless went on to say that Whitfield was a brilliant actor and a gifted photographer and engineer.

'Obviously, Andy Whitfield left an indelible mark on all of us in the Spartacus family,' she said.

Co-star: Lucy Lawless starred alongside Whitfield in Spartacus and paid tribute saying he was a 'gentle man'

'Andy's incandescent film presence made men want to be him and women want to marry him.

'Andy's two babies will always know that their Daddy cherished them and their mother, Vashti, above all things.

'How lucky we were to have him grace all our lives.'

Another person who spoke highly of the actor was Starz president and CEO Chris Albrecht who said: 'We were fortunate to have worked with Andy in Spartacus and came to know that the man who played a champion on-screen was also a champion in his own life.

A husband and a father: Whtifield is survived by his wife, Vashti, and two children

'Andy was an inspiration to all of us as he faced this very personal battle with courage, strength and grace.

'Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. He will live on in the hearts of his family, friends and fans.'

Whitfield is survived by his wife Vashti and his two children.

What a hero! David Walliams saves a dog from drowning as he continues with Thames swim

By SARAH BULL

What a hero! David Walliams today saved a dog from drowning as he continued his Thames swim for Sport Relief

Comedian David Walliams yesterday saved a dog from drowning despite suffering from ‘Thames Tummy’ during his marathon charity swim along the river.

The Little Britain star swam to save the one-year-old labrador after hearing him splash into the water. The animal, called Vinny, was struggling to get out because it has a bad hip.

Walliams grabbed the dog by the scruff of the neck and pushed it on to the river bank near Cookham Lock in Berkshire.

Bravery: Walliams pushed the Labrador to safety after the canine jumped in to greet the comedian

Walliams said: ‘I heard a splash and looked over to be met with the face of a sweet labrador.

‘I thought he was fine, but he started to really struggle when he was getting out so I swam over and helped his owner get him out.’

Vinny’s owner Steve Outten, 23, from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, said: ‘Vinny has hip dysplasia and was really struggling to get out just as David was swimming past.

‘He stopped, swam over and helped me get him out, which when you think what he’s going through with the swim is totally amazing. What a man.’

Hero's welcome: Walliams is applauded and cheered as he arrives at Bray Lock this afternoon

Support: Walliams said he has been amazed by the amount of support he has received from members of the public

Talking about his brave rescue, Walliams said: 'We had a little incident with a dog on the way to Maidenhead - I heard a splash and looked over to be met with the face of a sweet Labrador. I thought he was fine, but he started to really struggle when he was getting out so I swam over and helped his owner get him out.'

Walliams' rescue mission came as he was supported by his supermodel wife Lara Stone, who followed him on a boat as he swam.

Lara even fed Walliams a cookie as he stopped for a quick snack break on his way to Bray Lock in Maidenhead.

Taking to her Twitter page this morning, Lara wrote: 'He really is flying!! SO PROUD!!!!! #thamesswim @sportrelief.'

Support: David Walliams' wife Lara Stone came to support him on his Thames swim today

She later added: 'Another amazing reception! So many people, too sweet, brings tears to my eyes.'

Lara wasn't the only famous face supporting Walliams today, as comedian Miranda Hart also popped along.

After making him some porridge for breakfast, Miranda was ready and waiting with a dressing gown for Walliams as he pulled himself out of the water for a quick pitstop.

Walliams added: 'It's been a great day today. My wife Lara has been in the boat cheering me on which was such a big boost to me. Miranda Hart came along and made me porridge too which was a lovely thought, but slightly less lovely in practice.'

Slowly but surely: Walliams, seen here yesterday, is in much better spirits today

Grinning from ear to ear: Walliams smiled for the camera as he prepared to get into the water this morning

He added: 'My tummy has settled a bit and I had fish and chips and some pizza last night so feel better.

'We have broken through the 100 mile barrier now which is great, but once I reach Teddington Lock the Thames becomes tidal and there's a whole new set of challenges.

'The currents and undertows are very dangerous so I'll need to be strong.'

Eat up! Lara feeds Walliams a cookie to keep him energised for the swim

Famous faces: Lara was joined on the boat by comedian Miranda Hart

Walliams was also encouraged on the charity swim yesterday by his close friend, fellow comedian Jimmy Carr, who was there to congratulate him as he reached the halfway point of the challenge in Henley-on-Thames.

Earlier this week, the former Little Britain star was struggling to continue with the challenge after contracting 'Thames Tummy' from the murky Thames water.

But speaking about his progress yesterday, Walliams said: 'It's fantastic to be half way - although if I think for too long about the fact that I've got to do as many miles again, I feel even sicker than normal.

'I'm learning to live with the stomach bug and had a more settled night. I even tucked into fish and chips, so I’m taking food on board again.'

Suri Cruise masters running in heels (at the tender age of five) as she dashes to gymnastics class

By Daily Mail Reporter

Can't be late to class! Suri Cruise ran - in heels no less - to her gymnastics session in New York today

Suri Cruise set a cracking pace as she hurried her gymnastics class in New York today.

Not even a pair of heels - her favourite, if controversial, accessory - were able to slow her down as she arrived at Chelsea Piers, a sports complex in Manhattan, with her mother Katie Holmes.

Looking much older than her tender age, she skipped along with a handbag on her arm and a doll in the other.

Play time: Sure seemed excited to be heading into the centre where she gets to spend the day with other children

Suri is rumoured to have more than 130 pairs of shoes, many of which have been custom made.

Katie has previously defended her daughter's footwear, saying: 'They are actually ballroom dancing shoes for kids,' Katie said. 'I found them for her and she loves them.'

Suri later slipped off the shoes and enjoyed a gym class inside the centre.

Katie appeared relaxed in a casual shirt and jeans ensemble as she arrived covered with an unusual colour block sweater.

She was earlier spotted working out at a gym near the family's New York base.

Katie has been stepping up her fitness regimen recently and was just yesterday spotted leaving a gym in Brentwood, California after a hard work out.

Playing mommy: Suri Cruise cradles her doll as she heads to a day care centre with Katie Holmes today

The star then jetted to the East Coast later in the day and is in New York ready for the star of New York Fashion Week today.

She is expected to soon start filming Responsible Adults, romantic comedy starring Chace Crawford, about a guy who realizes that his crush was his babysitter 15 years ago.

Her husband, Tom Cruise, is meanwhile hard at work on his upcoming movie Rock Of Ages alongside Julianne Hough and Russell Brand.
