Wonder why she set off the metal detectors? Lady Gaga's studded dress is decidedly un-security friendly

By Mail Online Reporter

Security alert: It's no wonder Lady Gaga set off the alarms at Vancouver airport yesterday as she was wearing a black leather dress heavily embellished with metal studs

With the amount of frequent flyer miles Lady Gaga's racked up since shooting to superstardom you'd think she'd know something about airport appropriate attire.

But then she's never been one to dress down, for any reason, so it's no surprise
that a skin tight heavily studded black leather dress was her choice of clothing as she departed from Vancouver airport yesterday.

Not surprisingly the performer's metal-heavy garment sent the security detectors into overdrive, forcing her to submit to a manual pat down and exam.

Airport attire: Gaga's matching sky-high metal studded Christian Laboutin heels certainly weren't a conventional choice for comfy travel-friendly footwear

The bare footed Paparazzi singer willingly obliged, holding her arms out as an airport security woman waved a detector wand over her.

Gaga had followed one rule though, she did remove her shoes, which were also heavily studded, before passing through the security gate.

With her huge bleach blonde beehive hairdo and dark shades firmly in place, Gaga was a dead ringer for Joanna Lumley's Patsy from Absolutely Fabulous.

However, there was one major difference - instead of Patsy's preferred beverage of choice, a chilled bottle of Bollinger champagne, the outrageous New York native opted instead for a decidedly un-rock 'n' roll can of Coke Zero.

The 28-year-old is famed for her crazy, outrageous collection of outfits, and when it comes to creating the maximum amounts of shock and awe she rarely fails to impress.

And she's certainly not one to tone down her look in any way merely to fit in with convention.

This was highly apparent at last December's Royal Variety Performance where Gaga chose to wear a floor length, bright red latex dress with huge puff shoulders to meet the Queen of England.

She paired the look with outlandish bright red sparkly eye-make-up and lipstick.
Her majesty, who prefers a somewhat more conventional style of dress for herself, didn't let on her opinion of Gaga's choice of attire, smiling happily at the singer as she shook her hand.

Gaga did allow one nod to convention and etiquette though as she bowed deeply to the 84-year-old monarch.
