Scarlet ladies Jessica Alba and Natalie Portman help the Venice Film Festival get off to a glittering start

By Daily Mail Reporter

Ladies in red: Natalie Portman wore red chiffon to the opening movie of Venice Film Festival, Black Swan, while Jessica Alba wore floral Dolce and Gabbana at a photocall for her film Machete

They say never wear scarlet on the red carpet.

But Jessica Alba and Natalie Portman proved fashion rules are always made to be broken, both choosing scarlet dresses for the opening of the Venice Film Festival this evening.

The actresses looked equally stunning, in their very different gowns.

Jessica chose a floral Dolce and Gabanna number, which she teamed with tough black platform heels, an armful of bangles and a simple straight hairdo.
She then changed into a stunning black mini dress with long train for the first night screening of her movie Machete.

Natalie chose a more traditional style evening gown in red chiffon, slit to the waist to reveal her shapely legs.

Strike a pose: Jessica keeps her self- assurance, despite the huge number of photographers

The 29-year-old wore her hair coiled in an updo as she arrived for the opening film, Darron Aronofsky's Black Swan, in which she plays an ageing ballerina.

It came as Quentin Tarantino said the festival lineup was 'one of the most wildest, cool, eclectic lineups' he'd ever seen.

Tarantino heads the jury that will judge 22 films from 11 countries, plus one surprise film to be announced next week, for the coveted Golden Lion.

The director of Inglourious Basterds knows about festival lineups.

This isn't his first jury. In fact, the director confessed to hosting his own private festivals, lining up 15 DVDs and judging himself which was the best, a sort of unofficial Tarantino Film Fest.

He told reporters on Wednesday that he once he ran into director German filmmaker Tom Tykwer and told him: 'I did a little film festival for myself, and you won. Perfume won!'

Paper Sculptures

REMARKABLE ART WORK
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Sculptures of Native American scenes made out of paper
by Allen and Patty Eckman

These stunningly detailed sculptures may only be made from paper
but they are being snapped up by art fans for tens of thousands of dollars. The intricate creations depict Native American scenes and take up to 11 months to make using a specially formulated paper.

Husband and wife team, Allen and Patty Eckman. put paper
pulp into clay molds and pressurize it to remove the water.

The hard, lightweight pieces are then removed and the couple
painstakingly add detailed finishings with a wide range of tools.

They have been making the creations since 1987 at their home studio,
in South Dakota, USA, and have racked up a whopping $3 million selling the works of art.

The pieces depict traditional scenes from
Native American history of Cherokees hunting and dancing.

The most expensive piece is called Prairie Edge Powwow which sold for $47,000.00

Allen said: "We create Indians partly because my great, great grandmother was a Cherokee and my family on both sides admire the native Americans."

"I work on the men and animals and Patty does the women and children" explains Allen.

"I enjoy most doing the detail. The paper really lends itself to unlimited detail.
I'm really interested in the Indians' material, physical and spiritual culture and

that whole period of our nation's history I find fascinating. From the western
expansion, through the Civil War and beyond is of great interest to me."

Allen explained their technique: "It should not be confused with paper mache.
The two mediums are completely different. I call what we do 'cast paper sculpture.'"

"Some of them we create are life size and some we scale down to 1/6 life size."

"These sculptures are posed as standing nude figures
and limited detailed animals with no ears, tails or hair."

"We transform them by sculpting on top of them,
creating detail with soft and hard paper
we make in various thicknesses and textures."

"We have really enjoyed the development of our fine art techniques
over the years and have created a process that is worth sharing.
There are many artists and sculptors who we believe will enjoy
this medium as much as we have."

The Kardashian sisters certainly know thing or two about fashion.

The girls are often on the list of best dressed and rarely put a foot wrong in the style stakes.

And now the three, along with their mother, Kris Jenner, are about to cash in on their fashion no-how, launching a range of clothing for popular TV shopping channel QVC

Keeping it real: The K-Dash line of clothing and accessories will range in price from $20 - $240

The Kardashian clan are joining forces with Ginny Hil to create a fashion clothing and accessories line called K-Dash by Kardashian.

The new line will include everything from belts and handbags to leggings, tunics and faux fur-trimmed vests.

And it's all very competitively priced, ranging from $20-$240.

K-Dash by Kardashian is set to debut on QVC as part of Fashion’s Night Out, live from New York’s Rockefeller Center on Friday, September 10th 9PM EST.

Fashion pros: Kim Kardashian and her mother Kris Jenner both looked amazing on the red carpet at the Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday

The Kardashians have been very involved in the day to day creative process, working closely with Ginny Hilfiger, sister of Tommy Hilfiger, to articulate the styles as they envisioned them.

And who better to model the range than the gorgeous sisters themselves?

Kim and Kourtney showed off some of their new designs on the streets of Beverly Hills.

Kim wore the faux fur trimmed sweater vest with grey knit leggings before changing into the ponte red knit dress and faux leather motorcycle jacket.

New mom Kourtney opted for the leopard belted tunic and leather fringe cross-body bag for her first shot then changed it up into a bright blue sweater and black leggings.

Stylish sisters: Kim and Kourtney rarely put a foot wrong when it comes to their red carpet fashion choices

Kim couldn’t be more excited about their new range, saying: '[QVC] reaches a different audience than we’re used to. We always welcome that.'

Kourtney added, 'It’s a great way to interact. You get to put your opinions behind everything you do.'

The sisters already have a foot in the fashion industry with their two Dash clothing boutiques, based in Calabasas, California and Miami, Florida. They also sell the clothing on-line.

Fashionable family: Kim, Kourtney, Khloe and Kris have all been heavily involved in the creative process of their new line which they are designing with Ginny Hilfiger

Kourtney and Khloe are in charge of the active running of the stores on a day to day basis while Kim looks after public and media relations.

Dash sells clothing and accessories from a variety of celebrity brands. The hottest ones among the boutique’s regulars include Whitney Eve, Abbey Dawn, Miley Cyrus, La Rok, Mason, Naven and D’Amore, as well as swimwear from Beach Bunny, Vix and local label Alexis.

The store also carries Junk Food T-shirts and their own brand of scented candles and water bottles.

The boutique is currently developing its menswear collection and the recent buzz around the entertainment world is that the boutique will open another branch in New York.

Peace and Duff! Hilary's T-shirt says it all as she leaves her Pilates class in Hollywood

By Daily Mail Reporter

Peace out: Hilary Duff wears a T-shirt with a message as she leaves her Pilates class in North Hollywood yesterday

As a newly married woman, it's clearly all about peace and love for actress Hilary Duff.

The former Disney star sported a sleeveless T-shirt with a peace sign emblazoned on it as she left a Pilates class near her home in North Hollywood yesterday.

The star chatted on her phone as she left the class looking particularly low key in baggy grey tracksuit bottoms and Ugg boots.

The 22-year-old star is clearly still glowing after her nuptials to hockey player Mike Comrie just a few weeks ago.

'The giddy feeling is still there,' she recently told OK! magazine.

'[It's like], "Oh my God, I just got married!"'

When asked if tying the knot has changed anything, the actress joked: 'I get to ask him to feed the dogs more often!'

Duff and Comrie tied the knot in Santa Barbara in front of their closest friends and family.

The actress, who made her name as a teenager in Disney TV series Lizzie McGuire, wore a strapless Vera Wang dress, with her hair swept up into a bun, while Mike donned a traditional black Tom Ford tuxedo.

The happy couple then jetted off on a romantic honeymoon to Mexico.
