S. national champion Bridget Sloan and her teammate Rebecca Bross grabbed the gold and silver medals respectively in the women's all-around event at the 41st Artistic Gymnastics World Championships here on Friday.
Sloan, 17, completed her last event with the highest score of 14.825 points in the vault, edging Bross with 0.05 points to clinch the title with a total score of 57.825.

Sloan watched Bross performing on the floor after finishing her own events. "I was nervous for Rebecca. I wanted her to do the best," said the youngest member of the U.S. team that won the silver medal at the Beijing Olympics. "We both represented our country, I was very nervous for myself and also for Rebecca."
Bross, leading the 24-member field after three events, made several obvious mistakes in the floor exercise. Then the top qualifier had to settle for a second place with 57.775 points.

"I'm very happy with my medal. I tried my best, did my best. I'm very proud of myself," said Bross.
Japanese Koko Bross took the third place in 57.175 points and Olympic bronze medallist Yang Yilin from China managed a sixth finish after an awful landing in her favorite apparatus the uneven bars.
Yang began her final from the uneven bars. She did pretty well with twists and somersaults but landed with head and body on the mat. "I didn't warm up well, so I felt a little bit weak at last," said a calm Yang.
Yang received a back injury this January and was still training prudently to resume her competence. "I would try harder during the winter training."
Yang's teammate Deng Linlin finished 11th as the newly crowned national champion fell off the beam midway.
