Paramedics banned Tiger Woods' wife from ambulance because they suspected she beat him up

By Mail Foreign Service

Strain: Elin and Tiger Woods together last October, a month before revelations about a string of affairs pushed their marriage to the brink

Paramedics who took Tiger Woods to hospital after his car crash last year barred his wife from the ambulance due to fears she had attacked him, it has emerged.

'One of the crew stated that [his[ wife could not go in the ambulance because this was a domestic,' new Florida Highway Patrol papers released yesterday said.

It was the crash outside the golfer's Orlando mansion in the middle of the night on November 27 that triggered the implosion of his image as the perfect family man.

After the smash, which saw him drive his Cadillac SUV into a fire hydrant at 2.30am, he was linked with more than 10 women and later entered a sex addiction clinic

There was speculation at the time that Woods' wife Elin had attacked him with a golf club after learning of his infidelity, prompting him to flee the house.

But the couple told investigators she used the club to smash the back window of the vehicle so that she could unlock the door and pull her unconscious husband free.

Woods strongly denied she had attacked him in his first public appearance since the scandal last month when he made his grovelling, and very corporate, apology.

'Some people have speculated that Elin somehow hurt or attacked me on Thanksgiving Night,' he said.

'It angers me that people would fabricate a story like that. She never hit me that night or any other night. There has never been an episode of domestic violence in our marriage. Ever.'

The new files also show new pictures of the car after the bizarre crash, with one of the back windows smashed in and how the body was buckled at the front.

Police records show they found no evidence of domestic violence. An officer who went to the mansion after the crash said he had no idea where paramedics heard it from.

Woods, who has two young children with Elin - a former Swedish model, was later charged with careless driving and fined $164.

The newly-released reports also show Woods' wife handed police two bottles of painkillers.

And they reveal attempts to find out whether the golfer was drunk were blocked by Health Central Hospital in nearby Ocoee.

The hospital refused to release blood test results to investigators without a warrant and the state attorney's office said there was not enough probable cause a crime had been committed to issue one.

Cpl. Thomas R. Dewitt, one of the highway patrol investigators, also wrote in his report that he asked for videotape from a security camera at the Woods' home.

'There were two cameras that should have documented [the vehicle] leaving the driveway and portions of the crash,' he said.

But the golfer's lawyer, Mark NeJame, told him the couple didn't know if the camera worked and couldn't figure out how to remove the tape.

NeJame told Dewitt he had looked at monitors inside the home and they were blank.

There was no indication whether officers got the video despite several requests.

Woods has still not said when he will return to golf and sources say he will not be back until at least the Masters next month.

He has been practicing near to his Orlando home for the past fortnight. His last event was the Australian Masters in Melbourne, which was his 82nd win in his career.
