So, Lady Gaga, the new single you're promoting wouldn't happen to be about telephones by any chance?

Dial P for publicity: Lady Gaga's initial appearance before the camera

Even by Lady Gaga's standards of shameless self-promotion, it was an epic performance.

As a guest on Jonathan Ross's show, she managed to wear three different outfits on the theme of the telephone.

(Just in case the audience happened to miss it, Telephone is the title of her latest single.)

The 23-year-old New Yorker recorded an interview on Tuesday with Ross for his Friday night show.

She was first pictured in the green room in an elaborate PVC hat with a veil and silver telephone on top.

This was replaced for the interview itself by a black oldstyle telephone on her head, matching a black shiny trouser suit which showed her bra.

Then, performing her song, she emerged from a traditional red phone booth in a studded PVC corset with plumes on her shoulders, knee-high boots and fishnet tights.

Ross's programme is usually recorded on Thursdays but this was brought forward to accommodate the singer's busy schedule.

During the interview, Lady Gaga told Ross: 'I feel completely detached from the celebrity world. You never see me falling out of nightclubs.'

A few hours later, after a visit to the Funky Buddha club, she emerged looking unsteady on her feet and had to be propped up by a pair of minders.

The outrageous star is still not bored of flashing as much flesh as possible and showed off her derriere in tiny PVC knickers and a lace corset top.

The singer also wore a military-style jacket, ripped fishnets and a fan hairpiece with a long veil.

On the show she also admitted that she was bereft after the death of her friend, the designer Alexander McQueen.

‘He was the kindest human being,' she said. 'I feel left with nobody to inspire me any more.’

And she added that she had 'no friends' in the music industry and even claimed to be shunned by other stars, despite many turning up to watch her recent performances at the O2 Arena in London.

‘I didn’t speak to anyone at the BRITS,' she said.

‘I’m an outcast from the music industry, I don’t have any friends in the music business.’

But Gaga - real name Stefani Germanotta - told how she was more accepted in the UK than at home in the U.S.

‘People in Britain are the ones who’ve really been my friends,’ she said, adding 'There is no greater lady than the Queen.’

She performed for Her Majesty at the Royal Variety Performance in December

Lady Gaga also shot down rumours that she had reunited with her ex Matthew Williams - her creative director who she dated before she became famous.

She was spotted cradling his 10-month-old son, named Cairo, on a recent trip, which is said to have infuriated his ex Erin Hirsch.

But the singer told the show that she is single and does not have time for a relationship.

'I don’t have time to get to know anybody, I’m single and alone .. nobody would put up with my craziness.’
