TWELVE beauties have made the final list for Miss Zambia 2010 whose search began at last weekend’s auditions at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka.

In a statement, pageant organiser Elizabeth Mwanza noted that contestants from around the country participated in the selection processes.

Mwanza, the 1992 Miss Zambia winner, said the 12 will compete for the ultimate prize on June 5 at Mulungushi.

“The Miss Zambia pageant promotes an individual who is charged with doing her utmost to promote public awareness of community social issues, charitable organisations and the plight of the needy in our society.

“Miss Zambia has been successful with several projects in the area of education, HIV and AIDS, social welfare, road safety and tourism. This is embodied in our motto “Beauty with a purpose and vision,” she stated.

Mwanza stated announced the 2010 theme as ‘Amazing Zambia.’

“Amazing Zambia refers to a celebration of our people, culture, heritage and country. The finalists will have an opportunity to tour parts of Zambia in a month-long celebration.

Winfridah Mofu is the current Miss Zambia after she scooped the title in 2008 at Zambezi Sun Hotel in Livingstone.

Mwanza added that this year’s winner will represent Zambia at the Miss World 2010 in Vietnam on November 6 and the Miss Africa Pageant in Liberia in early 2011.

The finalists are Christine Mwaaba (21), Mutale Tembo (19), Irene Banda (21), Zindaba Hanzala (20), Margaret Chapa (21), Yvonne Phiri (21), Lily Singelengele (19), Miyanda Kalyalya (24), Susan Bwalya (20), Mukonde Daka (22), Ruth Kayukwa (21) and Priscillah Nyirongo (25).
