Stars in their eyes: Katy Brand and Rufus Hound take off Beyonce and Cheryl Cole for Sport Relief's Let's Dance


If Cheryl Cole ever wants a stand-in for her public appearances then she should look no further than comic Rufus Hound.

Ditto for Beyonce, who could well have met her match in Katy Brand after the comedienne gave her a run for her money in the dance routine stakes.

But Cheryl and Beyonce really needn't worry about the competition because both comics were just having some fun all in the name of charity.

Hound and Brand were two of six celebrity acts who made it to the final of BBC One's Let's Dance competition for its Sport Relief charity.

Brand, who looked fantastic in her black leotard and gold glove, strutted her stuff to Beyonce's All The Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It), while Hound had the audience in fits of laughter with his rendition of Cheryl's Fight For This Love.

Although both performed tricky dance routines, they didn't miss a step and performed them to perfection while still managing to keep the comedy element.

And they not only impressed the celebrity judges - comedians Robert Webb and Jack Dee and impersonator John Culshaw - but they were also the last two standing after the public vote with Hound coming up trumps.

As Hound received his award from last year's winner Webb, he said, 'I believe this moment defines me and history. It’s not easy getting a fat man to move like this!’, before performing his routine once more.

Webb added: ‘It almost goes without saying, he is more compelling and watchable than Cheryl Cole. He also added a costume that clearly hurts and in my experience that works!’

Other stars that made it to the final were GMTV presenters Kate Garraway and Richard Arnold, who almost didn't make it after Kate injured her coccyx during their last rehearsals before the live show.

But thankfully she recovered in time so she and Arnold could dance to Born To Hand Jive from the musical Grease - although Kate admitted afterwards that she padded her bottom in case it happened again.

Kate said she had been worried about dancing but was 'chuffed' to have made it to the final, with Arnold joking that he could hear the 'chatter of her veneers' as they waited to go on.

Smooth Criminal: Actress Debra Stephenson has all the right moves as she pays tribute to Michael Jackson

Also performing tonight was actress Debra Stephenson, who danced to Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal in a white suit and black trilby hat identical to the late singer's costume in his video for the song.

Webb told her that she'd done a great job as it wasn't easy to 'dance like Michael Jackson', while Jack Dee joked: 'You have no idea how many conspiracy theories you have started.'

Actress Cheryl Fergison, who plays Heather Trott, was also in the final for her rendition of Vanilla Ice's Ice Ice Baby, but unfortunately, after pulling a muscle in rehearsals, she was unable to perform live so a video of her performance two weeks ago was played instead.

Presenters of the BBC show Grumpy Old Women - Jenny Éclair and Susie Blake, along with Birds of Feather stars Lesley Joseph and Linda Robson - proved they were game for a laugh as they each dressed up in a different Lady Gaga persona to perform Poker Face.

Linda, who turned 52 today, was seen afterwards on her mobile phone backstage as she joked she was voting for them as it was easy to get through to their lines.

The show, which was presented by Steve Jones and Claudia Winkleman, also saw live performances from hip-hop group N-Dubz and the young stars of West End show Billy Elliot.

It was part of a whole range of shows and fundraising events for Sport Relief, which will all be broadcast on the BBC from 19-21 March.
