On October 2, Billboard will honor Lady GaGa with Rising Star title and Beyonce Knowles with Woman of the Year prize.
Lady GaGa is going to receive Billboard's Rising Star title at the publication's Women In Music Event which will take place next month. The dance queen is honored for her massive success in the early stages of her career which she got through her debut album "The Fame".
"Lady GaGa is one of those rare examples of a truly unique artist with mass appeal," Bill Werde, Billboard's Editorial Director, explained on why Lady GaGa deserves the title. "She has established herself as one of today's top songwriters, and the whole world is waiting to see what her next outrageous but brilliant move or style will be. It is that ongoing anticipation, combined with her success that makes her a rising star."
Since releasing "The Fame" in 2008, Lady GaGa has scored at least 2 chart-topping singles on Hot 100, "Just Dance" and "Poker Face" which have scanned over 4.6 and 4 million downloads respectively. With such selling number, the two songs are placed among the Top Ten of best-selling digital songs of all time. Beside having No. 1 singles, "The Fame" is also dubbed as the best-selling album from a debut artist for 2009. The set has sold more than 1,441,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Lady GaGa will be honored with the Rising Star title on October 2 in New York City along with Beyonce Knowles who will be handed with Woman of the Year prize. Beside celebrating the most powerful and talented women in the music business, this event is also held in conjunction with the Women In Music Power Players List issue, which recognizes the top female music executives who are leading the industry with their artistic and business vision.
In another news, Lady GaGa revealed that she will perform a new single on "Saturday Night Live". She said during a radio interview, "I have a new single that I'm actually going to be performing on 'Saturday Night Live', [along] with 'Paparazzi', and then I'm going to put out a kind of new body of work." Though so, she didn't mention when she will visit the TV show.
