'Venom' Moving Forward With Two Drafts In

'We've written two drafts of Venom, and the studio has it,' scribe Paul Wernick unravels how far this 'Spider-Man' spin-off has been in its development.

Sony Pictures announced that the studio is moving ahead with its plan on developing "Venom (2010)" in August, not much has come up about the project since. But, in a recent interview with Sci Fi Wire, scribe Paul Wernick revealed that the spin-off to the "Spider-Man" franchise, is not on a stand still with two drafts are already in the hands of Sony.

"We've written two drafts of Venom, and the studio has it, and they're pushing forward in whatever ways they push forward," the Emmy Award-winning screenwriter said Friday, September 25. Pressed further about when the movie will go into production, he responded, "We're not sure, [but] we've turned in our two drafts."

When asked about the relationship between "Spider-Man 4" and "Venom", the co-writer of upcoming horror comedy "Zombieland" was keeping his lips tightly sealed. "We can't really talk about that, unfortunately," he stated. "Basically, the studio and Marvel and the Arads are taking our drafts and going beyond and figuring out what's the next step."

Back in 2006, one of Spider-Man's enemies, Venom, was introduced to the fans in "Spider-Man 3" as Topher Grace portrayed the evil Spider-Man look-alike, humanly known as Eddie Brock. Considered one of the greatest threats to humanity in the Spider-Man universe, the villain is a sentient alien with a liquid-like form which requires a human host to survive. By bonding itself to the host, it gives its host enhanced power to form a super-villain.

There is still no official announcement about the actors that will star in the action film or whether Grace will reprise his role or not. However, screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese had suggested that Stan Lee, former president and chairman of Marvel, may make a cameo appearance in the movie that eyes a 2010 release.
